A true great of the Premier League era, Alan Shearer heads up the 100 club as the competition's all-time leading scorer with an extraordinary record of 260 goals in 441 appearances.

Shearer, who started his career at Southampton before joining Blackburn Rovers ahead of the inaugural Premier League season in 1992, needed just 124 games to become the first member of the 100 club. He remains the quickest to reach the milestone in the competition's history.

Shearer scored a total 112 Premier League goals in 138 appearances across four seasons at Blackburn before agreeing a then world-record £15m move to boyhood club Newcastle, where he added a further 148 goals in 303 appearances between 1996 and 2006.

The former striker's first season at Blackburn was curtailed by injury but he surpassed the 30-goal mark in three consecutive campaigns after that. He was not quite as prolific at Newcastle, in part due to further injury problems, but still scored more than 20 goals in three separate seasons.

His favourite opponent, in terms of goals scored, was Leeds United, against whom he netted 20 times. He scored 16 times against Everton, and 14 times against Coventry, Southampton and Tottenham.

There were also 10 goals against Manchester United, who famously missed out on his signature on two separate occasions under Sir Alex Ferguson.

A remarkable goalscoring journey that began with a double on his Premier League debut for Blackburn against Crystal Palace in August 1992, ended with a successful penalty kick for Newcastle in a 4-1 win over rivals Sunderland some 14 years later.

Two decades on, however, his legend endures.
